The Pilot — Mike Hagen was the last of a dying breed. He learned to fly as an Ag pilot, spraying crops, then flying props for minor air lines. Now in the age of jets and highly developed instruments he was flying stretch DC-8’s for Intercontinental Airlines. He could handle anything. But somewhere on the way—between the life he loved and the life he lived as a highly paid pilot—he began to drink. Intercontinental’s best pilot was drinking in the air.
